Frequently Asked Questions
How to use a reflector?
When it comes to reflectors, the more you use, the better, but even a single one can be effective if it is placed carefully: for optimal visibility, it is recommended to hang the reflector at knee height so that it can swing freely and be visible from both the front and back. Motorists will notice you more easily if you attach it on the side of the road. If your reflector is damaged, replace it with a new one.
All our reflectors are CE approved. The CE marking is a declaration by the manufacturer or importer stating that the product complies with the applicable European legislation requirements.
Standard EN 17353:2020 replaces the previous standards EN 13356 and EN 1150. Reflectors approved according to the previous standards are still for sale and can be used without issue.
Why is using a reflector a smart choice?
Why do some of your reflectors have different CE markings?
Is a reflector useful?
A driver using low-beam headlights can only spot a person walking without a reflector at about 50 meters, whereas a pedestrian reflector is visible at 350 meters. A mobile reflector in the dark is helpful in case of an encounter, whether on a cycling path or at a pedestrian crossing.
In dark and rainy weather, when visibility is poor, reflectors make interaction with traffic easier and give more time to react.
A reflector is a life insurance, because it is very difficult to spot pedestrians or cyclists moving in the dark without a reflector. Reflectors allow motorists to spot pedestrians up to seven times farther away than if they were walking without a reflector.
It's still better than nothing! All methods to make yourself visible are effective, but it's important to note that these products are generally not certified. Therefore, they often do not meet minimum size requirements* and their low ability to reflect light makes them more useful as decoration. Reflective fabrics, in particular, wear out quickly; therefore, you should not rely solely on them outdoors. That's why using several reflective products is safer.
*The reflectivity of a reflector is indicated by the CIL value, which must be at least 400 CIL. The higher this number, the better the reflectivity of the reflector. In addition to the CIL value, the standard for reflectors requires a reflective surface of at least 15.6 cm².
Are reflective stickers or reflective markings on clothing sufficient?
Why is there a mark on my reflector?
Your reflector may have spots or scratches, but these phenomena are normal during the production process and unavoidable when printing the reflective material. They do not diminish the quality of the reflector.
